Dedicated to marine science research and education
Salty-Science is dedicated to providing educational experiences to students young and old. Students will develop maritime, fishing, and research skills and become scientific anglers. Run by its founder, Matt Berkhout - a USCG Licensed Captain, HS Teacher, and Adjunct Professor - Salty Science provides fun, safe learning experiences and the experience of a lifetime. Specializing in shark tagging, we can also create the custom experience on your bucket list.
Weekly Internships
Offered in collaboration with the not-for-profit OceansWide, students participate in a full week of shark fishing. Throughout the process, new scientific anglers learn safe handling techniques, shark tagging methodology, and participate in data collection and recording - all using state of the art technology!
Day trips
Students enjoy a day long experience in maritime field science. Hands-on skills developed include scientific angling, shark handling, and shark tagging in the water. If you're a shark lover, this will be the event of your lifetime!
